Little Malties Day Care (2-3 yrs)

Little Malties – a year round, full day care for pre-school girls aged 2-3 years.

Duration of day care will be provided according to your needs, be that half-day, school day or extended day. We know that you do not stop when the school holidays come round, and so neither do we – Little Malties day care runs straight through the holidays giving you peace of mind that your daughter will always have the highest quality care available. We only close for three weeks per year.

We aim to inspire your daughter inside and outside of the classroom, celebrate all of her efforts, and give her the encouragement she needs to grow in confidence. Maltman’s Green is a place where childhood is valued, a bright and purposeful place with a broad and stimulating education within a secure and caring environment.

We believe in education that is specifically tailored for girls and are the only all-girls setting for 2 year olds in the Gerrards Cross and surrounding area. Click here to find out what’s special about our all-girls approach.

The EYFS Statutory Framework and our Individualised Approach

The EYFS Statutory Framework recommends that pre-school practitioners focus on three Prime Areas of Learning:

  1. Communication and Language: Our girls are valued, encouraged and given time to talk. Adults model correct speech by repetition and share the meaning of new vocabulary. This approach ensures the girls are taught to respect and listen to others.
  2. Physical Development: Outside activities are planned in our dedicated courtyard areas and within the extensive school groups. Girls use many of the facilities on offer and take part in a term’s worth of Swimming lessons with specialist staff. We encourage the girls to be as independent as possible, teaching skills such as dressing, using cutlery and toilet training.
  3. Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Our aim is to build confidence and self-worth, give girls time to share ideas and opinions, encourage them to think for themselves, teach them to accept responsibilities, guide them to make appropriate choices, and help them to manage relationships with others. We believe you can never overpraise a child, so celebrate even the smallest of achievements.

To deliver our individualised approach we go beyond these Prime Areas, planning activities that cover Specific Areas of Learning including:

  1. Literacy;
  2. Mathematics;
  3. Understanding the World;
  4. Expressive Arts and Design.

Our learning is topic based with cross-curricular links. By planning both group and individual activities we ensure every girl is able to learn and develop at her own pace.

Girls receive specialist teaching in swimming and music.

A Unique Setting

Our Little Malties day care setting has been designed to inspire and stimulate enquiring young minds. As well as an indoor space with areas for play and learning, a quiet room, wet room and an eating space, we have directly accessible outdoor areas with open lawns and woodlands. Playing outside allows the girls to understand how the world works, using self-selected resources for imaginative and social play, creating dens, and even building water systems.

Our Little Malties are very much part of our school community, something we feel is crucial for developing social skills and building confidence. With this aim in mind we also plan opportunities for the girls to make extensive use of all the facilities throughout the School, whether this be through visiting the Gym to use the equipment as soft play resources, joining in with our “wellie-walks”, or visiting the Pre-Prep playground to use the play equipment. Girls will also attend assemblies and take part in school events such as Theatre Group visits.

Our unique approach ensures the girls are well rounded and ‘school ready’.

Provision of Care

Little Malties is open from 7.30am until 6.30pm Monday to Friday, 49 weeks per year. We run flexible sessions to suit your requirements for as long or short a day as you need. Girls in Little Malties will be given lunch, snacks and dinner according to their sessions. All food is cooked fresh on the premises with no added salt and as little added sugar as possible – natural alternatives are used to sweeten puddings. A qualified nutritionist oversees all the menus, ensuring the food is nutritionally balanced.
