Dance & Drama

Speech and Drama (LAMDA)

Chargeable

Available from Year 1, these classes aim to foster an appreciation of literature, poetry, drama and improving communication through the spoken word. The emphasis is on having fun whilst learning to work both within a group and individually.

All girls taking Speech and Drama are invited to participate in LAMDA examinations which take place once a year. Years 1 and 2 prepare for Solo Introductory examinations, Years 3 and 4 prepare for Communication: Speaking Verse and Prose and Years 5 and 6 prepare for Performance: Acting examinations.

Ballet (RAD)

Chargeable

Ballet has been provided at Maltman’s Green for over 25 years and has a 100% pass rate in ballet exams. The Royal Academy of Dancing syllabus is taught from Pre-Primary upwards. Examinations are held with the RAD each year at a local external venue, allowing the girls to progress through the grades.

There will be opportunities during the year for parents to come and observe the lessons.

Modern Dancing

Chargeable

Modern Dance lessons are offered during lunchtimes to girls from Reception to Year 4. The aim of this activity is to introduce the girls to a wide range of rhythms and styles of Modern Dance with the emphasis on having fun. There are no formal examinations offered for this activity, however all girls will have the opportunity to perform in the annual dance show held during the Summer Term.

Street Dance

Chargeable

Street Dance is open to girls in Years 5 and 6. Girls will learn steps and moves to combine into routines to music. This activity is designed to give pupils an opportunity to have fun whilst building confidence through performance. There are no formal exams offered for this activity, however all girls will have the opportunity to perform in the annual dance show held during the Summer Term.
