Unlocking the Universe

29th January 20

Last week Maltman’s Green hosted a very special event with Lucy Hawking, daughter of the late visionary physicist Stephen Hawking. We were pleased to be able to welcome pupils from Thorpe House School, St Mary’s School and Gayhurst School.

Lucy did a brilliant job of engaging the pupils and seamlessly covered a great breadth of Science – including what would happen if you fell into a black hole, her work with the European Space Agency and what it is like to float in zero gravity. Much of the Science she covered in the talk can be found in ‘Unlocking the Universe’, the last book she worked on with her father. The pupils of the schools who attended, including our Year 5 and 6 pupils left Lucy’s talk with a passion for Science and space, inspired to use their imaginations to further scientific discovery.
