A Visit from Netball Star Ama Agbeze

10th July 19

On Wednesday 10 July, Maltman’s Green welcomed a very special guest to school – Ama Agbeze.

Ama is the ex-England Netball captain with over 100 caps for England and an incredible netball career spanning 18 years playing for her country. Last year she led her team to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and as a result of this incredible achievement the England netball team won both the Team and Greatest Sporting Moment awards at the 2018 BBC Sports Personality of the Year show. More recently Ama was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

On Wednesday morning Ama joined the girls at Maltman’s Green and gave an inspiring, exciting talk about her experiences as a world-class athlete. Not only did she share some interesting stories of her experiences playing Goal Defence and Goal Keeper for the England Netball Team, regaling the assembled with anecdotes about travelling to competitions all over the world, but she also shared her passion for sport and the mindsets that motivate her to succeed.

Ama’s career has been a roller-coaster of highs and lows, peppered with injuries and set backs. Yet, through it all, she has worked hard, demonstrated resilience, determination and adaptability – attitudes which have allowed her to bounce back and achieve her dreams. It is these such attitudes, or mindsets, that are so encouraged at Maltman’s, and Ama’s talk allowed the girls to understand how her mindsets have contributed to her success. Ama was certainly an inspiring role model for our girls, whether or not they see themselves as future sportswomen.

The Netball World Cup starts on Friday 12 July in Liverpool, and Ama will be part of the commentary team for this tournament. We’re sure the Maltman’s girls will be cheering on the England team and keeping an eye out for Ama too!

We are very lucky to have had such a special visitor. Huge thanks to Ama for taking the time to come and talk to our girls.

Incredible Results for our Year 6 Pupils
