Remembering Howard Mann

2nd October 19

This morning the sun came out for us to honor and remember Mr Howard Mann, OBE, FCIM, who was on our board of governors from 2010 until his death in 2018, and was Chair of Governors for the last two. As Mrs Pardon, Headmistress, said, “Howard led the board with energy and a strong vision, and there is no doubt that he made things happen at Maltman’s. Without him, we might not have the amazing theatre, the beautiful Head’s house or Little Malties. He found time to get to know the staff and spent many hours each week on school business.”

Howard had enjoyed a hugely successful career in the global food industry, culminating in his being appointed CEO of McCain Foods and he held numerous directorships in household name organisations.   His work at the School reflected his dedication throughout his career and he will be greatly missed for this as he will be for his energy and sense of fun.

To commemorate Howard’s contribution to Maltman’s Green, the governors have purchased a beautiful circular bench for the Prep School playground, there to be enjoyed by girls for years to come. The bench was officially unveiled by Mrs Mann to all the girls in the Prep School and their teachers. Mrs Pardon’s final words were, “If you ever think about who Howard Mann was, remember that he was a man who loved life, believed in perseverance and respect, and most importantly that he truly loved this school.”
