This week is all about a Centenary of Sport. As part of our 100th birthday celebrations the PE department have developed a series of themed activities for the girls to enjoy. These activities show how various sports have changed over the years both inside and outside of Maltman’s Green.
Lessons include the following:
Traditional Games: trying out some typical PE activities from Maltman’s Green’s early days, for instance, hula hooping, hoop and stick (or in our case hoop and tennis racket!), bean bag throwing, skittles and skipping.
Synchronised Swimming: girls at Maltman’s Green used to have specialist synchronised swimming classes, complete with underwater speakers! Today, the girls enjoy finding out just how tricky this aqua activity is.
Military Drill: though not necessarily practiced at MG, the girls are learning about the discipline and coordination needed for this very traditional activity.
Dance: after watching some clips of dances through the ages, such as foxtrot, jive and line dancing, the girls get to try their hand (and feet) at country dancing and make up some routines of their own.
Finally, the girls get the chance to have a good giggle at some photos of sporty Maltman’s girls going right back to the 1920s to see how things have changed with equipment, clothing and style.
Thanks goes to our wonderful PE department for planning this exciting week.
