Members of Maltman’s Green School Judo Club were in action at the end of January at the first ever ‘Preparatory Schools Judo Championships’ for girls held at Brockhurst and Marlston House Schools, Hermitage. Our Judoka took to the Mat against pupils from Marlston House, St Edmunds, Eagle House, Edgeborough, Amesbury, Farleigh, St Gabriels, Crossfields and Cranford House Schools for afternoon of competitive judo action.
Girls were grouped into pools of 4 or 5 competing in similar age and weight groups. In Pool A making her competitive debut Aaniya took the gold medal, winning her opening two bouts taking maximum points. Results in her third match allowed her to top the Pool taking first place.
Sasha in Pool B got off to a flying start winning her opening two bouts taking maximum points. In her third and final contest she came up against tough opposition. Unfortunately the result did not go her way and she finished with a creditable silver medal for her efforts.
Maya in Pool C had a fantastic afternoon wining all three contests securing her first ever Gold medal in competitive Judo.
Noemi-Alexandra was in the closely fought Pool D. She bounced back after losing her opening bout against the eventual Gold medallist to win her next two contests taking the silver medal.
Lucy came fresh off the netball court and straight to the Judo Mat winning all three contests, taking maximum points, winning Gold in Pool E.
Hannah in Pool F took a well-deserved bronze. Her opponents had to work very hard for their wins as Hannah showed lots of grit and determination and proved to be a tough adversary.
