Year 4 Cinderella Compositions

23rd May 17

Year 4 have been exploring the music of Prokofiev this term, listening to excerpts from his ‘Cinderella’ score and then working in small groups to create their own versions.

They have been focusing on the metre featured in particular sections (for example the waltz which is in 3-time, and the ‘tick tock clock’ section which is in 4-time), as well as selecting instruments carefully according to the type of sound they make (choosing wooden percussion to create the ‘tick tock’ sound or the glockenspiel to recreate the clock ‘chimes’).

Collaboration is the mind-set that has really been the focus during this topic, with all classes having shown an excellent ability so far to listen to each other as well as feeling confident enough to make their own musical contributions to the group compositions.

Prokofiev would be proud that his music has inspired such thoughtful work from Year 4!
