On Tuesday, 7 February, Maltman’s Green welcomed St Mary’s, Gayhurst, St Joseph’s and Chalfont St Peter CE Academy to a mind-blowing Creative Thinking morning, which involved collaborating as a team.
Our first challenge was to “build the world”, and make a safe environment for six families. We had to plan the settlement really carefully, and make sure there were houses, roads, water and electricity.
In our second activity, we had to collaborate to make an item of clothing out of recycled materials (or rubbish!). We were proud to show how sustainable we were as a whole school. The making and fashion show were both very funny. Our creations “wowed” everyone and were extremely beautiful. Mr Hammond was impressed that they actually stayed in one piece.
Probably the most sticky activity was the “Leaning Tower of Pasta” challenge. We really had to persevere as we made towers from marshmallows and dried spaghetti. This required a lot of effort… and patience. Luckily, we worked out that trapezoids and triangles created the strongest structures. Mr Hammond’s time limits made us get a bit stressed and some of the towers fell over. One of them even ended up looking like a hedgehog.
We all had a fun morning, and it was great to welcome the other schools (a Year 2 girl thought it was very unusual to see boys at Maltman’s). Everyone showed that girls at Maltman’s had big imaginations and that, if we work together, we can do anything.
