Congratulations to Alexandra for winning the Gold medal in the U24Kg category at the IAPS ‘Just for girls’ Judo tournament held at the High Wycombe Judo Centre on Saturday 28th January 2017.
The revamped tournament ‘opened its doors’ to even more prep and independent schools, taking on a new lease of life with 120 competitors in attendance, a huge success. The standard of Judo on display was very impressive and highly competitive, which made for great viewing.
Alex, making her Competitive debut was straight out the blocks throwing and holding to win her opening bout in under 20 seconds. The final was a very nervous affair in a closely fought contest which saw Alex trailing by a penalty and a small score, yet she was able to throw her opponent in the dying seconds of the contest to win the match and take gold, becoming IAPS champion for the first time.
The rest of the Maltman’s team, Hannah, Lucy and Rebecca put in some impressive Judo performances ‘in the heat of battle’ and dealing with the competitive pressure remarkably well. Despite not finishing in the medals they can take great pride in their efforts and will have gained some valuable life experiences that will no doubt benefit them in future Judo competitions.
Well done girls!
