RS have now finished their introductory Maltman’s Green Forest School sessions.
During this time the girls became familiar with all the Forest School safety rules and took part in lots of different planned activities. However, as the ethos of Forest School is all about child-led learning, the girls also enjoyed exploring the woods and playing lots of games such as; 1, 2, 3 Where are You and ‘Camera Kids’.
Planned activities included leaf printing, learning about hibernation and finding out lots of interesting facts about hedgehogs. The girls also made their own hedgehogs out of clay and used woodland materials to create the spines and features and, during the next session, built homes for their hedgehogs to live in.
In our final week, the girls all took part in a ‘Big Art’ challenge, making pictures of their favourite woodland animals using sticks, leaves, stones and anything else that they could find in the woods. However, due to sudden, extreme weather conditions, our planned hot chocolate and flapjack celebration snack had to take place in the classroom, although this did not seem to dampen the girls’ spirits or their enthusiasm for Forest School.
