Speech and Drama

Available from Year 3, these classes aim to foster an appreciation of literature, poetry and drama, improving communication through the spoken word. There are opportunities for the girls to improve their technical voice skills such as articulation and variety of pitch, as well as playing improvisation games to encourage tenacity, team work and creative thinking. The emphasis is on having fun whilst learning to work both within a group and individually. Team work and communication are hugely important in life and the girls learn to develop both of these in a safe and non-competitive environment. Self-belief and self-esteem are encouraged and each child learns how to value both themselves and others.

All girls taking Speech and Drama are invited to prepare for LAMDA examinations. These exams offer each pupil the opportunity to pursue their preferred genre of performance, from acting to poetry speaking; sight-reading to story-telling. They also provide girls with the chance to show off their improvisation skills and discuss their chosen performance material.

The Ondine Academy has been responsible for teaching Ballet at Maltman’s Green for 25 years and has a 100% pass rate in ballet exams. The Royal Academy of Dancing syllabus is taught from Pre Primary up to and including Grade 2. Examinations are held with the RAD each term at a local external venue, therefore allowing the girls to progress at their own individual pace.

For girls wishing to continue their ballet training above Grade 2, Ondine Academy operate a number of classes externally.  For further information please contact The Ondine Academy direct: Miss Peta Barratt
