Result: U10 MGS Won U11 MGS Won
Resport:
On Wednesday, we had a ‘friendly’ match with The Oratory. The U11’s won their games 10&half to 2&half rounders. The U10 team had an interesting match which we won closely by 12&half to 10&half rounders. Well done to the U10’s for some great fielding especially in the second innings and for the rounders scored!!
At least we had great weather and were able to play on the field for the first time in a week!!

Result: MGS Won
Resport:
We played our 2nd round of innings for the U11 IAPS National Rounders Competition against Milton Keynes Prep School on Tuesday. They came here on a very damp, windy day and we had to play our match on the tennis courts! However, we were determined to perform well and built up a good lead in the first innings…15&half rounders to 3&half. In the second innings, the visitors had a much better game achieving 15&half rounders so we had to score 4 rounders to win, which we did!!
There was some good batting and fielding so well done to the girls!
We’ve just heard that we are ‘away’ for the next round against Cheam School.
Gymnastics U11 A Squad National Sports Acro Championships

Result: 1st in Pairs, 1st in Group
Resport:
The gym squad performed brilliantly on Sunday at Fenton Manor in Stoke -on-Trent. It was the national finals of the sports acrobatics championships. We have never won this competition before so the girls were all fired up to be the first Maltmans team to come away with gold.

Lucy Michaels and Imogen Bond tumbled well in the morning with Lucy (after a small slip) finishing 15th and Imogen finishing a pleasing 5th place. To qualify for all these events, the girls had to win their Regional competition back in March. The girls then competed against the top gymnasts in every region at these finals. Imogen Bond and Danielle Plumb were second to perform in the U11 girls pairs and scored a magnificent 9.00. They then had a long wait to see if they had done enough! They were thrilled to receive the gold medal and be crowned champions. This is the first gold that Maltmans has won in this event.

The second gold of the day came from a brilliant group routine from Imogen, Danielle, Lucy, Annie, Inarah and Izzy. We were last to perform, and had seen some well executed group routines especially by Surbiton School and The Ridge. (The Ridge have been champions in this event for the last 11 years). So we were ecstatic to eventually topple them off this top spot. The girls received a trophy and gold medals and most importantly the National Sports Acro group title.

Well done to all the girls, you performed brilliantly!

The team:- Lucy Michaels, Imogen Bond, Danielle Plumb, Annie West , Inarah Manji, Isabel Coleman

Result: 16-5 win to MGS
Resport:
Maltman’s hosted the first round of this annual event by playing Swanbourne House at Home. We had been practicing madly and it paid off, as after the first innings and some superb fielding, we were in the lead 6 – 0. In the second innings, the girls started to bat with more gusto which enabled us to increase our lead further. The final score stood at 16 – 5 to us.
Result: MGS - Won
Resport:
On Sunday 22nd April, the U11 B gym squad consisting of Molly Coates, Isobel Hobson, Ashley Clarke, Anya Dhesi, Natasha Cooper-Smith and Charley Huggett travelled to Beaconsfield High School to compete in the annual Southern Region Floor and Vault competition. For many of these girls it was the first experience of competing and representing Maltman’s Green in an external competition. The standard of gymnastics is always very high but the girls all performed extremely well and the final result was team gold, which means Maltman’s Green will represent the Southern Region at the National Finals in Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday 12th May. Well done to all the girls for their hard work in preparation for and their performance at the competition. Good luck at the Nationals!

Result: one win; one draw; one lost
Resport:
On Monday 19th March, three teams from the weekly Netball Club travelled to Godstowe school for their last match of the season. It was beautiful weather, ideal for great netball! The girls were very excited but determined to do well. We had lots of support from the parents…thank you…it really encourages the girls!

The results were as follows:

Daffodils had a brilliant match, gaining the first goal and keeping up the standard of play to win by 9 goals to nil.

Tulips played really well and were unlucky to have a last minute goal against them to finish 2-3 goals.

Crocuses, however, managed to hold Godstowe to a 3-3 goal draw and had some close, exciting play.

The vaulting is where our girls really stood out with some great flighted vaults and super solid landings. Miranda Conn stepped into the team two weeks prior due to an injury to Annie West and she rose to the challenge and performed consistently on both the Vault and Group Sequence.

The Group Sequence is where our girls really excel and even though there was an error with the music system which meant that the music stopped half way through our routine, our girls were professional and experienced enough to carry on and perform the routine near faultlessly without the music. I am as always very proud of the girls but really on this occasion, I was bowled over with how maturely they coped with what could’ve been a very upsetting experience.

The girls still managed to win the Group Sequence and most importantly won the overall title. Well done girls – Lucy Michaels, Imogen Bond, Isabel Coleman, Danielle Plumb, Inarah Manji, Miranda Conn and Annie West.

This Junior Gala is a key event, as it also forms part of the selection process for identifying and inviting swimmers to join the Bucks Schools Swimming Team for the 12th ESSA Division 10 Inter-County Gala, scheduled to take place in June 2012.

Gymnastics U10 & U11 GISGA Gym Competition (at Kent College)

Result: U 10's 2nd U 11's 1st
Resport:
The gymnasts had a super successful weekend at the recent Girls Independent Gymnastics Championships which were held at Kent College, Tunbridge Wells.

The Under 10 gymnasts competed on Saturday and began their competition with their new fast moving, energetic group routine which they performed the best I’d ever seen. They then had a long wait till the end of the day to compete on all four apparatus. The girls put in a solid performance all round – namely Sylvie Atkins had a great all round competition, Lily Little performed a brilliant Set Vault and Ella Morgan gave a dazzling show on Voluntary Floor. Miranda Conn wowed us with her Voluntary Vault and earnt herself a medal for individual 5th place and Charley Huggett gave her best ever all-round performance and was delighted to gain the individual bronze medal. Alice Cunliffe attended as our travelling reserve and was even allowed to perform on a couple of apparatus which she did superbly.

It was the girls strongest performance to date and we were delighted to win silver medals. The team from Port Regis in this age group are fantastic and were the well-deserved champions. They also pipped us in the group sequence but again the girls were pleased to hold off strong competition from 12 other schools.

It was the turn for our experienced Under 11 team to compete on the Sunday. They were unlucky to be on first thing in the morning but as always our girls rose to the challenge. They were not only competing for the Under 11 title but they knew if they were to win, then Maltman’s Green would regain the title of the Top overall GISGA School. Due to our Under 9’s winning in November and our Under 10’s finishing second, the points between ourselves, Port Regis and Tormead School were VERY close.

The Maltman’s gymnasts set up the competition with some dazzling voluntary floors, and went on to steadily build up their scores with some strong performances on the other three pieces. Next the girls performed their group routine near faultlessly and they had done everything they could do. The girls now had to wait all day for the other 14 schools to take part before hearing the results. Our reserve Annabelle West who was meant to be competing had unfortunately broken her arm playing netball a couple of days earlier so was unable to take part but she played a great supporting role over the weekend to the team.

After, lunch and a trip back to the hotel for a swim, we were ready for the results. After a tense wait, the Group Sequence scores were announced and the girls were delighted to be called out in first place. Inarah Manji received a bronze medal overall and Isabel Coleman won silver which was a brilliant result. With a few Port Regis and Tormead girls scattered on the podium, I knew it was going to be a very close final result. With Tormead in third and Port Regis called out in second, we were delighted to be Under 11 Team Champions for 2012. The girls were also excited to win the overall top school title.

The strength and depth in our Under 11 team is a key factor to their success, there were some great individual performances but all the girls - Lucy Michaels, Imogen Bond, Danielle Plumb, Isabel Coleman and Inarah Manji really work well together as a team and their success is due to their hardwork and dedication.

Well done to all the gymnasts!
Netball Year 6 'A' Squad IAPS Regional Finals (Away)

Result: MGS Lost
Resport:
IAPS Regional Netball Tournament

On Thursday 1st March, the Under 11 A Netball Squad took part in the annual IAPS Netball Tournament at Kingsmead Netball Centre in High Wycombe. After the fog burnt off, we were treated to a beautiful spring day, ideal conditions for playing netball. Initially we played a round robin against the other seven teams in our section. (There were 48 teams in the competition)

Round robin results:
Downsend won 6-1
Bute House lost 1-6
Berkhamsted drew 6-6
Holme Grange won 6-1
Hall Grove won 3-1
Devonshire House won 11-0
Kew won 7-0

This placed the team on points equal with Berkhamsted; however, due to goal difference we went into the knock out stage as 3rd in Section A to play the runner up of Section F, Highfield Guildford. This was a very tough and tense game, only producing one goal; unfortunately it was not to be our day!

The girls played some really good attacking netball and should be very proud of their efforts and the sportsmanship they exhibited during the competition.

There are a few special thank you’s to make; Mrs Simmons who umpired throughout the day; Mrs West and Mrs Benzecry who acted as timer and scorer respectively; and the parents who supported the girls at Kingsmead and from work.

Team
Result: A Team won 11-6, B Team won 10-1
Resport:
On Tuesday 28th February, the U10A & B Netball teams played at Home against Highfield School. This was a new fixture for us, so we weren’t sure how it would go!

However, we needn’t have worried, as the ‘B’ team led the scoring from the start to achieve a finishing score of 10 – 1 goals. The ‘A’ team players had a close encounter during the first rounds, and were drawing 4 – 4 at half time, but then they upped their game to win 11 – 6 goals.

Well done to the girls for some slick tactical passing and a good result!!

Result: MGS Lost 2, Drew 1, Won 1
Resport:
An air of excitement was bubbling around the Year 4 classes on Wednesday 22nd February. 31 members of the year group were going to play in their first inter-school netball fixture against High March.

The anticipation built throughout the day and by 4.00 pm a mixture of tension and enthusiasm was clearly evident during the warm up. It was a wonderful opportunity for all members of the Year 4 Club to experience a netball match and they not only played with good sportsmanship, but also acted as excellent ambassadors for the School through their hostess duties after the match.

Due to injury, Catilin Halbard could not play; however, she came to support.

Thank you to all the parents for your support and a special mention for Katie Sanders (Year 6) who acted as coach, time keeper and refreshment manager!

Netball Year 5 'A' Team U10 Netball Tournament

Result: MGS placed 10th
Resport:
On Saturday 4th February 2012, the U10 netball squad met up at Queen Anne’s for their annual, winter netball tournament last Saturday. It was a lovely, sunny day, but the brisk, cold air kept us diving for our sleeping bags to keep warm between games!

We had a rather slow start by winning one game but losing the other two which, after the points were added up, put us in 3rd position within our group … and then the girls got a taste for competition and started to play really well! They jumped, & dodged, & passed quickly, & shot at goal more confidently!

In the final round of matches we won one game and drew the other two (in one game only by a last-second goal, which was a bit of a shame as they had played very positively!). We finished the tournament in 10th position out of 16 schools.

Man of the Matches: Siobhan Tainton as Goal Defence
Commendable Player: Natalia Jones as Goal Attack
Umpire of the Tournament: Thanks to Mrs Sapsed for giving up her time to umpire for us!

Players: Sahib Kaur, Hannah Krasner, Natalia Jones, Lavinia Champion, Pallavi Dadarkar, Lauren Saunders, Zoe Abbott, Imogen Rowan, Siobhan Tainton and Ella Patrick

Swimming Years 3 to 6 Swimming Gala v. Gayhurst

Result: MGS won 131-81
Resport:
On Thursday 2nd February, MGS girls took part in a Home Gala against Gayhurst School. For many of our younger swimmers, this was their first experience of a formal competition and they responded well to the challenge! For our older girls, they were faced with the challenge of competing against Year 7 & 8 swimmers. However, everyone performed brilliantly, achieving many personal bests!

The results were as follows:

Year 4 MGS 32 Gayhurst 18
Year 5 MGS 42 Gayhurst 20
Year 6 MGS 32 Gayhurst 25
Year 7/8 MGS 25 Gayhurst 18
Final Total: MGS 131 Gayhurst 81

The Year 3 girls also took part as non-scorers and swam against each other to gain gala experience, but they need to be acknowledged for a great effort and positive involvement.

Well done to all the girls who took part!! A great result!!

Netball U11 A&B Squad Tournament

Result: Placed 10th overall
Resport:
Under 11 Netball Tournament - 21st January 2012

On a very blustery Saturday morning, a mixed A&B netball squad headed to Reading for Queen Anne’s U11 Netball Tournament.

In the first round we lost our first match to The Abbey 2-4, drew against High March 2-2 and beat Devonshire House 4-1. This placed us in group 3 for the next round. We won our next matches against The Manor 4-1 and Rupert House 3-0 but unfortunately lost to Highfield 0-2.

The matches were followed by a much appreciated brunch of bacon butties and the presentation where the team was placed 10th.

The squad played some good flowing netball, demonstrating quick accurate passing and tactical awareness. They coped well with the strong gusts of wind blowing across Queen Anne’s playing fields.

A very big thank you to Mrs Simmons for umpiring and to the stoic parents who supported the teams in gale force conditions from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm.

Team:
Alex Telford (captain)
Lucy Michaels
Ella Walsh
Danielle Plumb
Megan Davis

As all the team performed well, they are all ‘Man of the Match’!

Both the A & B teams played some quality netball against High March. The A team, despite losing, strung together some excellent moves down the court, in particular the timing of their dodges. The B team made sure of their win by crisp passing, dodging and good defending.

A big thank you to the parents who brought their daughters back from school visits to play in the match.
