Residential Visits
At Maltman’s Green, we pride ourselves on being able to offer a wide range of experiences to our children beyond the normal academic curriculum.
Our programme of residential visits has been running for a number of years and there are opportunities for all children from Year 4 to Year 6 to participate in at least one residential visit.
These have been carefully selected in order to compliment the teaching programme as well as being suitable for the age of the children involved. They are a rewarding experience and we know that as children turn into young adults they still remember much of their time spent away from the school classroom, learning about life in a very different way.
Currently our annual Residential visit programme includes the following:
- Year 4 Geography field trip to Exmoor for 3 days
- Year Five activity week in the Quantocks for a long weekend
- Year Six French trip at an Outdoor Centre activity week in Northern France
- Year Four / Five Ski Trip every two years
Residential visits start in the autumn term with Year 5 girls going on an adventure weekend at Kilve Court in Somerset. At Kilve they face various physical challenges and learn to trust and support each other and work in teams when solving problems. This experience helps to increase each girl’s confidence and enables the girls to get to know each other in a different environment to school.
The girls in Years 4 and 5 have the opportunity to join a ski trip run in January. This is a wonderful chance for the girls to experience skiing alongside their friends.
There is an annual visit to Northern France for Year 6 just before Easter. The girls have the chance to practice their spoken French and discover a wealth of aspects of life in France and French culture as well as letting off steam with a range of outdoor activities. They even get to meet children in a French school, having exchanged letters for months prior to the trip.
In May the Year 4 girls set off to Nettlecombe Court, a field study centre run by the Field Study Council (The gold standard in school fieldwork without a doubt). They learn to sleep in dormitories, make and pack their own lunch as well as trapping small mammals, river dipping , climbing Dunkery Beacon and studying long shore drift along Porlock Bay. This is such an exciting trip that Mrs Pardon can’t resist accompanying the girls.
All these visits are conducted in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Department of Education and Employment.
