Extra-Curricular | Clubs

ICT Clubs:

These take place on a Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtime from 12.40 to 1.15 for Years 5 and 6 and from 1.15 to 1.50 for Years 3 and 4. All girls are welcome to attend. Pupils get the chance to try out new activities and also to consolidate the computer skills that they have already learnt.

Maths Clubs:

These are for Years 3 – 6 on Wednesday and Friday lunchtimes. This is an optional club and its aim is to provide the girls with the opportunity to investigate mathematics, individually or with their friends in a less structured environment. They have the opportunity to learn and play a variety of maths games, explore mathematics equipment, learn new skills, practice others and play mathematics games and activities on the computers. Some girls also come to catch up with work or to get help.

French Club:

This is held every Wednesday lunch time between 1.15 and 1.50pm. The aim is to enhance and further linguistic skills through a range of games and fun activities. A particular emphasis is placed upon developing pupils’ oral confidence. Typical activities include bingo, board games, jigsaws as well as tasks using the interactive whiteboard and computers.

Spanish Club:

Spanish club takes place at lunchtime, twice a week and is for Year 1 and Year 2. Girls are introduced to Spanish through games, songs and interactive resources. The emphasis is on encouraging oral development of the language. Girls also gain an understanding of Spain and other Spanish speaking countries and their cultures.

Gardening Clubs:

There are five Gardening clubs in total, all at lunchtime. There is a Year 2 club on Wednesdays and Year 4-5 and Year 3-4 clubs on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We grow vegetables, herbs and fruit that are used in our kitchens and Art lessons. We use the Discovery Garden and greenhouse, as well as some beds in the Senior playground and tubs in the Junior playground and round the outside classroom.

Last year we grew carrots, lettuce, radishes, raspberries, strawberries, potatoes, sweet corn, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, runner beans, squash, courgettes, broad beans, cabbage, spinach, onions, shallots and much, much more.

We also grow flowers to make the school more beautiful and learn a lot of skills and knowledge along the way. More importantly than all of this we have fun together outside come rain or shine.

The RSPB Explorers Club:

This club is open to Year 5 and 6 pupils. It is a relaxed Club who meet once a week to learn about wildlife and work to improve habitats around the school site. In the last few years, we have installed numerous feeding stations for birds and bird nesting boxes. We take part in the RSPB Schools’ Birdwatch week and organise our own Maltman’s wildlife photographic completion annually. We welcome speakers to tell us more about different types of birds and have organised a birdwatching walk around a local wildfowl lake at a weekend.
