SPEECH AND DRAMA
Speech and Drama is available from Year 3. The forty minute classes take place at lunch time or after school in the Function Room, the girls being split into classes of approximately ten working with others from their year.
All aspects of drama are explored from voice work to mime and acting. There is plenty of opportunity to perform but also to create work, with the girls working collaboratively and individually to produce all sorts of performances to the rest of the class.
Once a year the girls are entered into a London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) examination in the Speaking of Verse and Prose. They are required to learn poems to perform by heart to an examiner and also to develop communication skills so that they can talk interestingly and enthusiastically about their recital.
The emphasis is on having fun whilst learning to work both within a group and individually. Team work and communication are hugely important in life and the girls learn to develop both these in a safe and non-competitive environment. Self-belief and self-esteem are encouraged and each child learns how to value both themselves and others.
