Excellence with a sense of fun!

Curriculum | Music

Music plays a very important part in life at Maltman's Green. We have lots going on in the department, with a good selection of choirs, orchestras, groups and bands meeting at different times of the year. We also have a large number of individual music lessons being taught every week.

All girls, from Nursery to Year 6, receive two class music lessons a week and these are taught be specialist teachers. The curriculum is varied with singing, performing and listening forming the foundation of music teaching. Composition and exploring music is also encouraged.

The department is very well resourced with a Junior Music Room, complete with grand piano and a variety of classroom percussion instruments. The Senior Music Room is furnished with an assortment of larger classroom instruments as well as electronic keyboards, computers and music software. There are also a number of practice rooms available for lessons and rehearsals.

Emphasis is placed on public performance and all pupils have the opportunity to take part in at least one major stage production a year. As well as a number of informal concerts the girls take part in the Nativity Productions, the Carol Service, the Years 3 and 4 Production and the Years 5 and 6 Leavers' play. The motto - 'the pursuit of excellence whilst maintaining a sense of fun' sums up the ethos of the whole department.
