ICT
ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is an integral aspect of the children’s learning environment right from Nursery. We are acutely aware that ICT should not replace traditional skills which we value such as handwriting, but should add a new and exciting dimension to learning. We have a rolling programme of investment to ensure that our hardware and software is up to the minute, fast and appropriate. This includes over 100 computers, two suites and a growing number of interactive white boards. . We use Windows XP Professional and a well screened broad band internet connection.
The girls are competent with a wide range of applications including word processing, database design, spreadsheets, Lego robotics, basic programming and control technology through our “LEGO mindscape” suite., animation, desktop publishing, using the web and touch typing.
We promote a cross-curricular approach to ICT. From Year 1 onwards the children are taught one formal lesson of ICT per week. From Year 3, a specialist ICT teacher is responsible for teaching the subject. Computers are used across the curriculum and throughout the school there is software appropriate to each age group and their needs encouraging a multimedia approach to teaching and learning
There are extra-curricular ICT Clubs during lunchtimes and as part of the school’s extended day programme.
