Junior School (Age 5-7)
The Junior School includes Year 1 and Year 2. We follow a wide and varied curriculum with the aim of producing happy and well motivated girls who will be fully prepared for transition into the Senior School at the end of Year 2. When they enter Reception, the girls are placed in three parallel classes of mixed ability.
The core subjects covered are Mathematics, English and Science. In Mathematics, a great emphasis is placed on practical and oral activities as well as more formal lessons. The English timetable includes many aspects of creative writing, grammar, comprehension and spelling. Science lessons cover different topics and include investigative and experimental work. In Humanities, the girls study History, Geography and Religious Education. Weekly lessons are also taught in Handwriting, ICT, Art and Craft and Technology.
In Physical Education, Music and Drama the girls are taught by specialist teachers, and in Year 2 conversational French is started. Assemblies are regularly attended and discussions on Personal Social and Health Education are part of class circle-time activities.
Visits to places of educational interest and talks by visiting speakers take place during the year. The girls have an opportunity each week to visit the Junior School library and to take part in the many extra curricular activities offered by the School.
