Maltman's Green As An Eco-School
Maltman's Green As An Eo-School.
At Maltman’s Green we take this initiative very seriously. It has been embedded in our Core Principles since 2008 and in Spring 2010 we gained our Green Flag status which means that we have attained "Sustainable School Status" and are seen as leaders in this field. Sustainability is embedded in the curriculum in all years and there is wide and growing use of the grounds made in the girl’s daily life in the school. Our extra-curricular opportunities also allow girls to extend their basic interest and skills. There are five Gardening Clubs (Years 2-6) , an RSPB Explorers Club (Years 5 and 6) and Fairtrade Club (Year 5)
Our Eco-schools programme is led by an EcoCouncil. Each class in the Senior school elects a representative and the Junior school also has three Year 2 representatives. Staff, Parents and Governors also sit on the EcoCouncil and we meet at least every half term. From this group comes the ideas and leadership to instigate many initiatives and continue with those already embedded. Theirs is a PR, motivational role with many facets, but also involves specific duties. They are the ‘ideas’ girls, the ones who bring a child’s perspective and who think creatively about what is being done, or not being done. They will canvas opinion from the rest of the pupils and bring their recommendations to the EcoCouncil.
