Curriculum - Subjects - Mathematics

Our aim is to make Mathematics fun, relevant to the children and to help them acquire the skills and confidence to tackle and pass Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations. Maths is taught by Form teachers in the Junior School and enthusiastic Maths specialists from Year 4.

All pupils receive a balanced programme of study , with the empasis being placed on developing a mental facility with numbers and learning through practical activities. The small groups, and Classroom Assistants, enable us to have several activities happening at the same time. Time and support is given to those who need reinforcement as well as those who are able to take the subject to a high level.

The use of ICT in Mathematics starts in the Nursery. The interactive whiteboards are a great resource and the girls enjoy using them to enhance their understanding of a topic, or to challenge one another when playing Mathematical games.

Girls in Year 5 and 6 are given the opportunity to take part in the Junior Mathematics Challenge run by The Mathematical Association, and we have some girls who are then invited to take part in the final rounds.
